Can I get my party venue deposit back, or transfer it?
Party and event venue deposits are usually non-refundable but movable to a new date, within limits. What real policies allow, and when handing the booking to someone else can work.

The short answer
A refund is unlikely, but a date change usually is possible. Most published party venue policies treat the deposit as non-refundable and let you move it to a new date, often within 12 months and sometimes only once. That helps if you're postponing. It doesn't help if the party is off entirely.
If the party is cancelled for good
Ask the venue two questions in writing: can the booking (date and deposit) be assigned to another customer, and would they refund or credit you if they re-book your date themselves? Venues with busy calendars sometimes agree, especially on in-demand weekend dates. Get any yes in writing, including who pays any transfer fee.
Read for these words
“Non-transferable” or “not assignable” means you need the venue's explicit consent. “Credit” usually means the money stays with the venue for your own future booking. “Transferable to a new date” is about dates, not people, unless it says otherwise.
