The short answer

Frequently yes. Small retreat hosts have fixed costs per bed, so many keep the deposit but allow a replacement guest, as the policies above show. Larger operators more often allow only a date change for the same person. Look for “transfer to another person,” “replacement” or “substitute” in your booking terms.

Watch the deadlines

Transfer rights often change at the final-payment date (commonly 30 to 90 days out). Before it, you may be able to move the deposit to another retreat. After it, a replacement guest may be the only way to recover anything. Start looking as soon as you know you can't go.

Hand it off cleanly

Tell the host in writing who is taking your place and ask them to confirm. The new guest usually signs the host's own waiver and health forms and may need to share a room with an assigned roommate. They should reimburse you after the host confirms, not before.

Retreats are a listing category. Upload your booking confirmation, we read the transfer terms, and our 8% fee applies only after the host confirms the new guest.
